The Essential Rich Demerara Syrup Recipe
I find making syrups cheaper and tastier than the ones you can buy so take a few minutes to try out this quick recipe for yourself.
Demerara is a 2:1 syrup meaning it is 2 parts sugar for each 1 part water, also known as a “Rich” syrup.
Alternatively, you may have heard of simple syrup which is a 1:1 ratio.
You might have guessed it, rich syrups will be sweeter and thicker.
Demerara brings a nice weight to drinks that is an often overlooked characteristic of a cocktail.
Works well in most whiskey and various rum cocktails.
Tips
Place a small sauce pan over low to medium heat.
Pour in 2 cups of Demerara sugar.
Pour in 1 cup of hot water
Stir continuously while the sugar dissolves
Immediately remove from heat once the sugar is dissolved to ensure the consistency is the thickness we are after.
Let cool & you are finished!
