How to Make the Scofflaw Cocktail
With roots in prohibition, both the cocktail and the word itself defied each other. Originally referring to those who drank illegally, the word "scofflaw" has come to represent those who disregard small regulations that are difficult to enforce (particularly traffic laws). The cocktail, on the other hand, has remained unchanged for the most part. So, I'd say the drink won!
Delicate & Bright.
Flavors of spicy rye and tart lemon.
If you like a whiskey sour, you’ll most likely enjoy this.
Sips
If possible, make some homemade grenadine in advance.
If you would like a sweeter cocktail you can add a bit more grenadine but you will likely loose the dry vermouth flavor.
You can garnish with either lemon or orange oils, depending upon which flavor you would like to bring out of the cocktail more.
Chill that glass!
Tips
The Scofflaw Recipe
Begin with a shaking tin.
Add 1.5 oz. of rye whiskey.
Add 1 oz. of dry vermouth.
Next, add 1/2 oz. of lemon juice.
Then add 1/4 oz. of grenadine.
Pour in two dashes of orange bitters.
Add ice and shake.
Double strain into your glass.
Peel a swath of orange while over the glass so the oils are expressed over the cocktail.
Cut the edges of the orange swath and express over the top of the glass.
Fold the swath onto a cocktail skewer and place on the glass rim.
1.5 oz. (45 ml) Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey
1 oz. (30 ml) Dolin Dry Vermouth de Chambéry
1/2 oz. (15 ml) lemon juice
1/4 oz. (7.5 ml) grenadine (SYRUPS VIDEO: https://rb.gy/buovjp)
2 dashes Regan's Orange Bitters No. 6
Orange zest for garnish
