Believed to be the evolutionary link between the Manhattan and the martini, I believe this cocktail outshines them both. This recipe's heavy on the orange bitters, but I absolutely love it. Definitely try this drink if you're a Manhattan fan, martini fan, or simply enjoy a tasty cocktail.
How to Make the Martinez Cocktail
I find this drink more interesting and complex than a Manhattan.
Candy element with a bitter finish.
Sips
I find using equal parts old tom gin and sweet vermouth helps to balance out the heavy hand of bitters.
A whole quarter ounce of bitters sounds like a lot but trust me, if you have the Fee brothers brand it works fantastically. If you have another brand, start slow with a few dashes and add to your liking.
As usual, chill that glass ahead of time!
Tips
Start with a mixing glass.
Pour in 1.25 oz. of your favorite Gin.
Next, add 1.25 oz. of sweet vermouth.
Add .25 oz of Maraschino Liqueur
Then, 0.25 oz. of orange bitters.
Add ice and stir for solid 30 seconds if not a bit more to get the proper dilution.
Strain into the chilled glass.
Express a lemon swath over top and across the rim of the glass.
Skewer an the lemon swath and place it at the edge of the glass.
Cheers!
