A perfect fall cocktail, the Lion's tail! This drink dates back to the 1930's, and has attracted quite the following. Here, bourbon is paired with lime and allspice inching this cocktail towards the likes of tiki. Perfect for a fall afternoon, this spicy/snappy sour is honestly wonderful every season of the year.

How to Make the Lion's Tail Cocktail

  • In a word - “Snappy”

  • A bit of bright citrus to lighten up a gloomy fall day.

  • Tons of cozy warm baking spice flavor.

Sips

  • Many similar recipes don’t call for demerara syrup but I highly recommend because it provides a needed texture to the drink.

  • I used Eagle Rare Bourbon which is rather hard to find these days so feel free to substitute with your favorite bourbon.

  • Chill that glass!

Tips

  1. Start with a shaking tin.

  2. Pour in 1.5 oz. of bourbon.

  3. Next, add 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice.

  4. Then, 0.5 oz. of allspice liqueur.

  5. Add 0.25 oz. of rich demerara syrup.

  6. And two healthy dashes of angostura bitters.

  7. Add ice and shake!

  8. Now double strain into the glass.

  9. Peel a strip of lime rind and twist it above the glass to express the oils.

  10. Place the lime twist on top as a garnish.

  11. Cheers!
