Today we’re making a Hemingway inspired cocktail, Death in the Afternoon (the drink not the book)! The original specs on this cocktail are a heavy pour of a strong spirit (absinthe) topped off with more alcohol (champagne). I'll be making my favorite version of this drink that's slightly toned-down. I think it'll be a bit more approachable to a wider audience. Don't be fooled, however - this drink's still rather strong. If you plan on sipping these through the afternoon, be sure to clear your schedule!

My version of the “Death in the afternoon” Cocktail

  • Easier to drink than the original.

  • Great if you like Absinthe but don’t want it to be the only flavor.

Sips

  • Use fresh lemon juice if possible!

  • Chill a coup (or two) in advance.

Tips
