Today I'm making the Caipirinha! The tart lime and grassy cachaça are what make this the perfect drink for when it's hot outside. Not to worry if you don't have cachaça (though I recommend trying some), this formula works with other spirits too! If you're somewhere warm and need to beat the heat - this one's for you! Cheers!
How to Make The Caipirinha
Outright refreshing!
Tart, bright and a bit of woodiness from the Cachaça.
Sips
Try it with vodka for an equally refreshing drink called the Caipiroska or Caipivodka.
Alternatively, mix in some other fruits for a Caipifruta!
Crush some ice ahead of time, you’ll be using a decent amount for this one.
Tips
Begin with a sturdy double rocks glass, we will be muddling in this recipe so we want it to hold up to the pressure.
On a cutting board, cut off each end of the lime and cut into wedges.
Drop three lime wedges into your glass.
Add 1 tbsp. of cane sugar over top of the lime wedges.
Muddle the lime to where you get the juice and oil from the peel expressed. (about 10 seconds)
Pour in 2 oz. of Cachaça - preferably barrel-aged.
Nearly fill up the glass with crushed ice.
Stir with a bar spoon and try to lift up the lime pieces.
Top off with crushed Ice.
Garnish with another slice of lime so you can add lime to your drink as it dilutes.
Cheers!
