How to Make a smoked Maple Old fashioned
The perfect cocktail for fall - the Smoked Maple Old Fashioned! This one follows the Old Fashioned template of spirit, bitters, sugar, and water, but with a few little twists of my own. The result is a smokey, sweet, walnut-y glass of yum. Think of pancakes by a campfire - in my mind that's a very good thing. Enjoy this one, everybody! Cheers!
Like the morning after a campfire and eating pancakes.
Sweet smoke and orange on the nose.
Bold bourbon flavors.
Sips
This drink has a unique step: smoking your glass which requires you to have the necessary tools.
Here is a great smoking glass kit option: https://viski.com/collections/cocktail-smoking-kits/products/11022
When igniting the wood be very careful and be sure to lay down a protective layer on your counter top.
Don’t play with fire! (But it is fun to make cocktails with.)
Get yourself a quality maple syrup with rich flavors.
Tips
Start with a mixing glass.
Add 2 oz. of Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon (or your favorite bourbon).
Next, add 0.25 oz. of maple syrup.
Then, 3 dashes of black walnut bitters.
Set the mixing glass aside and get ready to smoke your glass.
Using a smoking kit, coat the inside of your glass with smoke and let sit upside down, holding the smoke in.
Back to your mixing glass, add ice and stir for about 30 seconds.
Now flip over your smoked glass and add a large ice cube.
Strain the cocktail into your glass.
(optional) Garnish with an orange zest and cocktail cherry.
