HOW TO MAKE The Penicillin Cocktail

The penicillin may not be a cocktail that has withstood the test of time just yet (since it was created in 2005) but I believe this one is here to stay.

Sips

  • Snappy Ginger

  • Subtle Spirits

  • Hints of Honey & Peat

  • Iā€™m using Monkey Shoulder & Laphroaig 10 Year but, as always, you can substitute your favorite spirit in each category.

  • I mix in the peaty Islay whisky before shaking, but a lot of recipes will have you float it on top of the drink at the end. You're in charge here. Try it both ways and see what you like best.

  • Pssst - If you are sick and drink enough of these, you may not care you are sick šŸ¤«

Tips

The penicillin Cocktail Recipe

  1. First, grab a cutting board and a knife & cut 3-4 coins of the ginger. (no need to peel but I advise rinsing off dirt)

  2. Muddle the ginger in a shaking tin until mushy.

  3. Pour in the following:

    1. 2 oz. Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

    2. 1/4 oz. Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

    3. 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice

    4. 3/4 oz. honey syrup (3:1)

  4. Add ice & shake until it further breaks up the ginger.

  5. In your lowball glass, add a large ice cube.

  6. Double strain into your glass.

  7. (Optional) Garnish with candied ginger or a twist of lemon.

  8. Cheers!
