HOW TO MAKE AN OLD FASHIONED
You can’t have a cocktail blog and not mention an Old Fashioned. It is the drink that started all other cocktails. There are plenty of versions of this drink that feature other spirits but today we will be utilizing bourbon whiskey. If you only know how to make one cocktail, this is the one to master.
Delicious and simple
Spirit forward (Bourbon in this case), bitters, sugar & water
Sips
Often times bartenders will create this drink in the low ball glass it’s being served in. This time around we will be creating it in a mixing glass.
Higher-proof bourbons hold up well to the dilution and sugar in this drink but use whichever bourbon you enjoy most.
Angostura Bitters are the gold-standard and have been around longer than the old-fashioned itself, we highly recommend using it here.
Tips
Begin with a mixing glass.
Cut a small piece of an orange and drop it right in.
Next we will add the sugar, 0.25 oz of rich Demerara syrup
Add four dashes of Angostura bitters
Add 2oz. of Bourbon
On the side, bring in your low-ball or rocks glass and insert a large piece of ice.
In your mixing glass, add some ice and stir for a short period.
Strain off the cocktail from your mixing glass over the large piece of ice in your rocks glass.
Garnish with a zest of orange and a cocktail cherry.
Enjoy, Cheers!
