How to Make a Tradewinds Cocktail
I'm going to show you an easy tiki, the Tradewinds! This was always my go-to when someone would come into the bar on a tiki night and order a drink right before last call. Not only did I feel confident they'd love the taste of it, but I would use equal ratios to keep it simple, and swizzle it right in the glass to get it out quickly.
Rich apricot, bright lemon, and subtle coconut.
Rum flavors are mild but you can pick up on the vanilla from the Kōloa Kaua’i Dark Rum.
The grated nutmeg on top adds and extra layer of flavor.
Sips
Prep some finely-crushed ice beforehand. Not quite crushed to the point where its snow-like but enough to where it can help dilute the drink a bit.
If you have a swizzle stick grab that, if not a bar spoon also works great!
As always, chill that glass! (This time, use your favorite tiki glass)
Tips
The Tradewinds Recipe
Begin with a chilled tiki glass.
Pour in 1 oz. of gold rum.
Next, pour in 1 oz. of dark rum.
Then, 1 oz. of apricot liqueur.
Add 1 oz. of cream of coconut.
Lastly 1 oz. of fresh lemon juice.
Drop in your swizzle stick or bar spoon and then fill up the glass with crushed ice.
Swizzle throughout the glass until everything is incorporated and ice is slightly diluted into the drink.
Top with more crushed ice.
Garnish with pineapple fronds, grated nutmeg over the ice and a bent-up cocktail umbrella.
