Four Dry-January Mocktails
Spa Water
A nice easy drinking mocktail that you can pretend you are at the spa with. Begin with a julip cup (if you have one) or a glass of your choice. Muddle together ingredients 1 through 4, then add crushed ice. Pour in ingredient 5 and top off with more crushed ice plus and the sprig of mint and slice of cucumber for a garnish.
Ingredient list:
4 slices of cucumber
4-6 mint leaves
1 oz. (30 ml) fresh lime juice
1/2 oz. (15 ml) semi-rich simple syrup (1.5:1, sugar:water)
2-3 oz. (60-90 ml) Topo Chico Sparkling Mineral Water OR soda water
Sprig of mint and slice of cucumber for garnish
2. Basil Orgeat Lemonade
I would make this at the bar all the time for anyone who wanted a cocktail that has some complex flavor combinations without the alcohol. In a shaking tin, combine ingredients 1-3 and shake for about 10 seconds. Take a large piece of basil in you glass and cover it with crushed ice. Double strain your shaker tin into the glass and top if off with soda water and more crushed ice.
Ingredient list:
1.5 oz. (45 ml) homemade orgeat
1.5 oz. (45 ml) fresh lemon juice
4 basil leaves
3 oz. (90 ml) Topo Chico Sparkling Mineral Water OR soda water
Basil leaf and lemon wheel for garnish
3. The Devil’s Day Off
This is an original of mine, and I must say, I enjoy it. We will utilize red bitter soda for this one, its kind of like a non-alc campari. In a shaking tin, combine ingredients 1-4 and shake for 10 seconds. Pour into a tall collins class with ice and mix in your red bitter soda. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
Ingredient list:
2 oz. (60 ml) grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lime juice
1/4 oz. (7.5 ml) agave nectar
Pinch of cinnamon
1 bottle (100 ml) red bitter soda*
Sprig of rosemary for garnish
4. The Grey Fox
Another original of mine but I can’t take credit for naming it. I like to think it fits well because the earl gray tea being one of the ingredients and, well, I am the fox. Start with a strong earl grey tea and then add 400 grams of sugar over low heat until dissolved. Then in a shaking tin add ingredients 1-3 to a shaking tin and shake for 10 seconds. Pour into a Collins glass with ice and top off with tonic water.
Ingredient list:
1 oz. (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
1 oz. (30 ml) rich earl grey syrup**
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) aquafaba (chickpea or white bean water)

Lemon zest for garnish
